Empowered Communication: Tools for confident self advocacy

Gain valuable tools and strategies to effectively present your ideas, needs, and positions with confidence, clarity, and persistence. This session is designed to help you navigate and communicate in a variety of contexts, whether with family members, colleagues, bosses, or board members. You’ll learn how to assert yourself in challenging situations involving positional power, microaggressions, or harassment, ensuring that you can hold firm, set healthy boundaries, and advocate for yourself and others. By the end of the session, you will feel more empowered to stand your ground and engage in difficult conversations with greater ease and authority.

Facilitators

Nuna Gleason (she/her)

Nuna Gleason is a Kenyan storyteller at heart. She believes magic happens when transformation happens inside. She is dedicated to advocacy and shifting perspectives on how stories are told by providing platforms for the oppressed and sharing narratives of resilience and beauty emerging from seemingly broken situations. She brings an open heart to this work as she continues her exploration of mindfulness. Nuna is the Executive Director at Wounded Healers International encompasses the Wounded Healers Kenya Project and the Maine Afro Yoga Project.

Clara Porter (she/her)

Clara Porter MSW, is the founder of Prevention. Action. Change. which works to counter harassment, assault, and abuse through safety strategies, verbal and physical skills, increased confidence and awareness, and promotion of healing and growth. Clara has more than 30 years experience in violence prevention and is certified in Empowerment Self Defense with both the National Women’s Martial Arts Federation and Center for Antiviolence Education, as well as in Advanced Trauma First Aide.  As a parent, activist, and community member, Clara is committed to creating empowered, safe, and welcoming spaces where people feel supported and positively challenged.
